It was an exciting few days at the Schenectady JCC. On Sunday, August 2nd, roughly two dozen volunteers came together to complete Teva Play – Natural Outdoor Playspace and Classroom by building Phase 2 and improving Phase 1. In conjunction with JCC staff, Kathy helped prep for and manage the volunteer Community Build and oversaw the construction of the tike track, balance area, and some maintenance work in Phase 1. Jim and Kathy also built a gas station/EV charging station, stop light, and stop sign for the tike track.
Kathy worked with the Davey Tree Expert Company which graciously donated their time, supplies, and a large crane to lift the 12’ x 25” car log into place and to place another 20+’ of logs for use as balance beams and stumps. The crane definitely got the attention of everyone on the campus that morning – especially the children.
The Community Build was featured on the front page in The Daily Gazette. The next morning children at the JCC were amazed at the new facilities built for them and couldn’t wait to get out to use them. We are thrilled to once again be a part of improving the JCC grounds and expanding upon the already popular Phase 1 space constructed by volunteers in September 2014.
